Why I love (and hate) my Kindle

The hubs bought me a Kindle for Mother's Day. Wasn't that sweeeeet? ;-)

Anyhoo, I quickly became OBSESSED with it! And so did my daughter, who coincidentally has learned how to use it better than me. Meh.

I've always wanted to the try an ebook reader because I'm all about saving trees and junk. And I'm a 21st century kind-of-girl. BUT I'm also a control freak who doesn't like change. What's a girl to do?!

I didn't want an ebook reader for one, and only one, reason:

I wanted to be able to "hold" a book and "flip" the pages.

That's important to me. And it's ingrained in my head. That's how you read.

But then I got one, so I had to figure something out, quick. First, the Kindle is small and very fragile feeling. I was afraid if I just dropped it in my lap it would crack. Eep!

And holding it was awkward. (Just like I thought) My fingers cramped. It just wasn't a book.

A CASE! That's it! Did you know they have these fancy cases that flip open like a book? And you can hold your Kindle like a book??? I got me one of those! In green. And, sigh, my problem was solved. Although I still can't "flip" the pages, clicking on the page turning seems to be satisfying me. And the cover has made ALL the difference in the world.

I LOVE MY KINDLE.

It's compact. It's light. Easy to carry around. (No need to lug three books around in my bag). It's efficient. The pages are easy to read. I can update Twitter and Facebook from it! (Bonus) It's easy to navigate and use (although the offspring STILL knows more than me). It just works.

And I'm still saving trees! YAY me!

I HATE MY KINDLE

I find myself "touching" the screen, hoping I can flip through it quickly to find what I want. It doesn't work. LoL.

While there are several free and inexpensive books I can get, most of the new ones (or ones I want to read) are $9.99. Hmph. I can buy the paperback for twelve bucks, so ... why isn't it cheaper???

WHY????

It reminds me of an itch-a-sketch ... which is just weird. I want to touch it with my pen and draw doodles all over it.

Either way, I truly do like "love" it. I guess I will cope with my issues. I'm sure there will be more.

How about you and your e-reader? Lovesit? Hatesit? Tell me.

P.S. Have you entered my give-a-way yet?
NO?
GASP!!!!
Never fear, peeps--go HERE!

I've had a Kindle for almost 2 years now, and at this point I can barely stand paper books. I know! It's awful! But I hate having to turn pages or hold a book with two hands. I like to "search" for things rather than flipping back and forth. I love highlighting passages I like with a few clicks, and being able to look at all of them at once. I love being able to have any book I want in under 30 seconds without leaving the comfort of my house. Or my chair. It may not be great for my body or my wallet, but I am addicted to my Kindle.

I'm one who also has the love/hate relationship. I've had it for about five months and I've gone straight back to my paperback. I find that I still get my moneys worth while traveling and for the inexpensive ebooks. I also use the Kindle mostly for my netgalley reading and that is nice.

Overall I'm a paperback reader at heart and always will be. LONG LIVE THE PAPERBACKS!!

You're on step ahead of me

*I hate e-readers*

I can't bring myself to buy one.

*I hate e-readers*

I know it would probably be handy.

*I hate e-readers*

But I just can't fathom not being able to touch PAPER.

*I hate e-readers*

Should I get one anyway? lol

I love and hate my Kindle also. It is a great device but I do miss holding an actual book in my hands.

I have a Kindle and I love it. I still read paper books too but it was so much lighter to carry the Kindle with me on vacation than a couple books. Plus I was able to read what I wanted to instead of finishing a book and buying whatever was available at the airport.

There was a quote on Shelf Awareness - some guy at Penguin (I think) said that there are book readers, whose ideal is a digital book, and book owners who love to share and shelve, etc.

Personally, I'm a hybrid. I have a Kindle and I like it. I bring it with me everywhere so I always have something to read. I also love a gorgeous hardcover. Kindle, for me, is good for beach read paperbacks and series novels that go on forever.

Etch-A-Sketch - that's funny! Took me a while to get used to my iPad's eReader, but it's awesome now. Pages flip just like a real book and when I'm tired, I can bump the font up to super size.

I'm an ink & paper gal! I love real books. But I have friends and family with the Kindle and they like it. I'm all about saving trees and encouraging reading for all ages, so if eReaders make that happen then that's great! Just don't make me get one, lol.

I like my Kindle a lot, but sometimes it can be a pain in the butt unless you highlight a certain paragraph to go back to later.

Ohhh.. I haven't caved yet... but I see so many people on the train with them.

I've gotten better with mine. But I still like going back and reading actual books. I'm a page-flipper, and it's hard to do that w/the Kindle.

But I like it!!! I'm just... evolving in my like. :D <3

I've only read one book thus far on my Ipad but I do like it. The disadvantage is I can't pass the book along to my daughter who does not live with me. When I buy a book, I always think of who else may enjoy it, and who I may lend it to.
